The Business Process Consultant (Senior) is responsible for leading and supporting business process analysis, requirements gathering, and solution recommendation activities for IT and operational projects. This role will facilitate communication between business stakeholders and technical teams to ensure that business needs are clearly understood, well-documented, and effectively translated into viable technical solutions. The consultant will also support project planning, change management, and post-implementation activities to ensure project success and alignment with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities: Project Planning and Analysis
Participate in the Project Preliminary Planning Phase, including receipt/review of project requests, refinement, and development of business cases and concept proposals.
Develop feasibility studies and cost-benefit analysis reports to assist executive management in decision-making.
Transition project concepts into chartered projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Assist in defining project scope and developing the project management plan.
Requirements Elicitation and Stakeholder Management
Identify project stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) through stakeholder analysis and management.
Facilitate elicitation sessions and workshops with diverse stakeholder groups.
Capture, analyze, and document business requirements at multiple levels of influence.
Communicate and guide the project team on the requirements development and management process.
Modeling and Documentation
Utilize and differentiate between various modeling techniques (e.g., use cases, workflows, swim lanes, context diagrams).
Develop and maintain business, functional, and non-functional requirement documents.
Use JIRA to manage the lifecycle of requirements.
Conduct quality reviews and walkthroughs of business requirements documentation.
Facilitate sign-off on requirements and enforce change management procedures.
Solution Recommendation and Design Support
Translate business needs into clear and actionable technical requirements.
Work closely with IT and DoIT groups to determine appropriate technology solutions to business challenges.
Examine and document existing business models and workflows, providing recommendations for improvement.
Present cost specifications and high-level designs/use cases to support system development.
Recommend and document system evolution strategies and address project interdependencies.
Client and Project Support
Act as a liaison between business and IT teams, ensuring clear communication and understanding.
Support post-project implementation through evaluation and documentation of project outcomes.
Identify project benefits, potential team members, deliverables, and performance metrics.
Develop initial performance measures to assess project success.
Facilitate project meetings and communications in the absence of the Project Manager.
Provide consultation and support on IT issues and recommend suitable technologies.
Deliver clear, informative, and organized presentations to stakeholders.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Experience: Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in business process consulting, business analysis, or IT consulting in large enterprise or government environments.
Technical Skills:
Strong experience with JIRA, MS Visio, or equivalent modeling tools.
Knowledge of business process modeling, requirements management, and cost-benefit analysis.
Familiarity with IT solution design, system integration, and change management practices.
Soft Skills:
Excellent facilitation, communication, and analytical skills.
Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders.
Strong presentation and documentation abilities.
Work Environment:
Standard office environment or remote, depending on project needs.
May require occasional travel to client or project sites.
